    Course Introduction

    This beginner-level Mandarin Chinese course is tailored for school students who are learning Chinese for the first time. Using the child-friendly and interactive Zoom textbook, the course introduces the Chinese language through Pinyin (phonetic system), basic characters, vocabulary, and cultural topics. Emphasis is placed on listening, speaking, and character recognition through songs, games, dialogues, and hands-on activities.
    The course is divided into two parts:
    A1.1 (Month 1): Covers Pinyin, greetings, numbers, family, and classroom vocabulary.
    A1.2 (Month 2): Focuses on daily life vocabulary such as home, city, food, weather, and simple sentence building

    Learning Outcomes

    By the end of the A1 level course, students will be able to:

    1. Recognize and pronounce Chinese syllables using Pinyin.
    2. Greet others and introduce themselves using correct Mandarin phrases.
    3. Understand and use basic vocabulary related to family, school, and daily routines.
    4. Read and write common characters introduced in class.
    5. Ask and answer simple questions in Mandarin.
    6. Use simple sentence structures to express likes, needs, and activities.
    7. Gain cultural awareness of Chinese festivals and traditions.
    8. Present a short speech or project confidently using learned vocabulary.

    Part 1: A1.1 (Month 1)

    Objective: Introduce Pinyin, basic vocabulary, and essential classroom and personal expressions.

    Week 1: Pinyin & Greetings

    • Lesson 1: Initials, finals, and tones in Pinyin
    • Lesson 2: 你好! 我叫… (Greetings & self-introduction)
    • Lesson 3: 课堂用语 (Classroom commands and vocabulary)

    Week 2: Numbers & Dates

    • Lesson 4: 数字 1–30 (Numbers and counting)
    • Lesson 5: 星期、月份、生日 (Days of the week, months, birthdays)
    • Lesson 6: 颜色 (Colors and simple adjectives)

    Week 3: Family & Descriptions

    • Lesson 7: 我的家 (Family members and vocabulary)
    • Lesson 8: 年龄和职业 (Age, occupations, nationalities)
    • Lesson 9: 描述一个人 (Describing someone)

    Week 4: Daily Life & Review

    • Lesson 10: 日常活动 (Daily routines: 起床,吃饭,上学)
    • Lesson 11: 综合复习 + 对话练习
    • Lesson 12: 小项目:“我和我的家人” (Mini project)

    Assessment: Pinyin test + basic characters + speaking activity + writing sentences

    Part 2: A1.2 (Month 2)

    Objective: Expand vocabulary and communication skills through practical topics and simple sentence building.

    Week 1: Home & City Life

    • Lesson 1: 我的家 – 房间和家具 (Rooms and furniture)
    • Lesson 2: 城市里 – 商店、学校、公园 (City locations and vocabulary)
    • Lesson 3: 方位词 (Prepositions and location phrases)

    Week 2: Weather, Clothes & Hobbies

    • Lesson 4: 今天天气怎么样?(Weather and seasons)
    • Lesson 5: 衣服 (Clothing vocabulary)
    • Lesson 6: 爱好 – 音乐、运动、画画 (Hobbies and interests)

    Week 3: Food & Dialogues

    • Lesson 7: 早餐、午餐、晚餐 (Meals and food vocabulary)
    • Lesson 8: 点餐和礼貌用语 (Ordering food and polite expressions)
    • Lesson 9: 情景对话练习 (Role-plays and conversation practice)

    Week 4: Review & Presentation

    • Lesson 10: 游戏 + 故事复习 (Games and storytelling)
    • Lesson 11: 准备演讲
    • Lesson 12: 结业展示:“我的一天” (Final Presentation: My Day)

    Assessment: Written character test + conversation practice + oral presentation
